Steam Cleaning Tips for Your Carpet
Here are some helpful tips for you to keep in mind if you use a wet-cleaning method on your carpets:
- Take out all of your furnishings, or wrap the feet with plastic wrap to eliminate water stains on the furniture and furniture paint/varnish stains on your carpet. If you can't take out the furniture all together, try to shift the pieces slightly as you go so as to get all of the carpet cleaned.
- Remember not to over wet the carpet, and to double check on the proportion of cleaner to water before you spray the carpet.
- As with any product, be sure to check your warranty or talk to the manufacturer of your carpet before using any strong cleaning products. Even after receiving the "go ahead" from your manufacturer or warranty, it is a good idea to test the cleaner on a small portion of your carpet, or a sample piece, to verify that it will not affect the dye or fibers of your carpeting.
- Run fans in the rooms you have cleaned to speed up the drying time. Air movement speeds up the evaporation of the water still trapped within your carpet.
- Have a clean pair of slippers by the door in case you must enter the home before the carpet is fully dry. This can keep dirt from your shoes from re-soiling the carpet pre-maturely.
